LEGISLATIONS AND PLANS

OHIP's Delisted Services

There is still confusion around the dates that various services will be delisted by OHIP. So far, the Ministry has confirmed that optometry services will not be covered after November 30, 2004 and physiotherapy will be covered until March 31, 2005. No date has been set as yet for chiropractic services.*

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Dentistry

A new device called HealOzone may provide relief for people who cringe at the thought of needles for freezing prior to having cavities filled. The new technique uses small blasts of ozone gas to kill the cavity-causing bacteria. The treated tooth then .heals. over a period of 12 weeks. Larger cavities may require a subsequent filling. Cost of the initial treatment is around $160, with subsequent fillings costing about $70 each.*
